Tesla CEO Elon Musk has once again taken to Twitter to hint at the electric automaker’s next big announcement - in this instance a possible performance upgrade for the flagship P100D drive system available in the Model S sedan and Model X SUV ranges.
In the tweet, Musk said “Forgot to mention there will be a P100D Ludicrous Easter egg soon that uncorks the full performance” but gave no other details of what that might involve.

In the case of the Model S P100D the high performance EV is already capable of sprinting from 0-100 km/h in a supercar-like 2.7 seconds with Tesla’s Ludicrous drive mode engaged, with the Model X SUV not far behind it with a 3.1 second sprint time.
Previous ‘easter eggs’ (hidden features not explained in the owner's manual) packaged into the Tesla range haven’t been performance oriented, but have included a Ludicrous mode warp-speed animation, and rainbow charge-port LED illumination, along with numerous other small operational features.
There’s also every chance that Musk, known for his somewhat wry sense of humour when describing his product announcements, may be cryptically referring to yet another feel good feature - like the ability to invoke a Spy Who Loved Me style Lotus Esprit menu option via the suspension settings.
The use of the term “uncorks” means that Musk’s hint may not be as literal as it seems, but we’ll have to wait to find out.
Musk also announced a new glass roof option for the Model S, which fixes a fully uninterrupted glazed panel between the front and rear windscreen without the need for cross-bracing through the B-pillar.
Musk highlighted Tesla's reinforced body structure is critical to make the new glass roof option a possibility. The fixed glass roof joins the previous opening panoramic roof on the options list.
TMR will bring you more info about the P100D easter egg - whatever it might be - when it becomes available.
