Sydney’s Eastern Creek Raceway will from today be known as Sydney Motorsport Park.

The new name is part of a $12 million transformation that includes both infrastructure and operational elements of the complex.

Track-wise, the main change is an 830 metre extension to the existing circuit, creating what will be known as the 4.5 kilometre Long Circuit.

Other link roads have been constructed to enable a total of four separate track configurations, now comprising the 4.5km Long Circuit, the original 3.9km GP Circuit, a 2.8km North GP layout and the 1.9km South GP configuration.

The North GP and South GP tracks have been designed to enable two simultaneous events, which is expected to significantly improve the complex’s commercial viability.

A second pit lane structure and control tower are being constructed adjacent to turns four and five to enable this full independence.

Existing pit facilities are also being refurbished, and are due for completion soon.

Funding for the project has been jointly provided by the NSW State Government and the circuit’s managing body, the Australian Racing Drivers' Club (ARDC).

The ARDC is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year, and identify the changing face of the Eastern Creek complex as synonymous with an evolution within the ARDC itself.
