The now independent DS - born out of the former Citroen DS range - is set to launch a new range-topping sedan in 2018.
And now, industry paper Automotive News Europe quotes an unnamed source in reporting the new sedan will be unlike anything to have worn a Citroen DS badge before.
Dubbed the ‘DS 8’ (for now, a name that could be changed), the new sedan is destined to debut in the Chinese market in 2018 before being offered to European customers.
The source reportedly said the DS 8 would feature styling cues from both the Numero 9 concept (pictured below) from the Beijing Auto Show in 2012 and the Divine DS concept (pictured, top of page) from last year’s Paris Motor Show.
DS already has a foothold in China with its China-only DS 5LS, DS 6 and other models, but the DS 8 is likely to sit well above all others in the DS range.
The carmaker is reportedly targeting the likes of BMW’s 5 Series, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Audi’s A6 with a large-sized sedan, rather than a long-wheelbase model more akin to the 7 Series or S-Class.
