Dodge has wasted no time in delivering a follow-up to May’s souped-up Challenger Hellcat, unveiling a new Charger version this week.

The self-proclaimed “fastest and most powerful sedan in the world” is powered by the same scorching 6.2 litre supercharged Hemi V8 that propels the Challenger coupe to 96km/h (60mph) in a very super 3.5 seconds.

Dodge’s SRT arm says the four-door Charger Hellcat will hit 60mph just a fraction slower at 3.7 seconds.

Of course, one near rival is BMW’s special-edition 30th Anniversary M5, which lists a 0-100km/h (62mph) time of 3.9 seconds - suggesting it’s likely on par with the Charger SRT Hellcat.

(In its regular form, the M5 lists a 0-100km/h time of 4.3 seconds - hardly a disappointment.)
