Dodge has announced its most powerful V8-engined car ever - and unleashed a brace of tantalising videos to go with it.

Odds are we'll never see the Challenger SRT in this country (at least not in this model generation), but we can at least enjoy watching the special-edition Hellcat vaporise its rear tyres with ludicrous ease thanks to its 447kW-plus supercharged 6.2 litre V8.

That engine is a development of the base Challenger SRT's naturally-aspirated 6.4 litre engine, and comes mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed auto.

Power goes to the rear wheels, naturally, where a limited-slip differential keeps both wheels spinning.

But besides the supercharger, the Hellcat engine employs a few other tricks to help it pump out significantly more power than the "standard" SRT's 361kW.

Tricks like a high-flow active exhaust, along with a low-restriction intake fed by air scoops in the bonnet and the false inboard headlamps.

Massive Brembo brakes are also featured, packed in between 20-inch wheels that are shod with ultra-grippy Pirelli P-Zero Nero rubber.

Pricing details have yet to be released, but expect further info to surface closer to the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT's launch in the third quarter of this year.
