Detroit Electric SP01 Redesign Revealed

Reborn electric carmaker Detroit Electric has revealed its newly made-over SP:01 this week, following its debut as a concept back early last year.

The Lotus Exige-based SP:01 gets its own unique front and rear styling tweaks, but, unlike the Tesla Roadster before it, the Lotus look remains dominant.

While the SP:01’s styling may be far from revolutionary, it’s what lies beneath the skin that Detroit Electric would like buyers to focus on.

Power in the new sports car is provided by a 150kW/225Nm mid-mounted electric motor, sending power to the rear wheels.

Detroit Electric claims a 0-100km/h time of just 3.7 seconds for the SP:01, on its way to a top speed of 248km/h.
