Delphi Joins Growing List Of BMW Autonomous Partners

Delphi is the latest partner in BMW's self-driving development program as the German carmaker looks to further the technology.

Joining Intel and Mobileye, Delphi has been announced as a "development partner and system integrator", with a view to developing 'levels' (the new way of describing degrees of autonomy) three, four and five.

Delphi has already assisted with the development of a prototype computer platform, and will work with Intel and Mobileye to further perception, sensor fusion, and automated driving computing systems.

“This is a great opportunity for Delphi to use its technical depth and experience with automated driving and electrical architecture to help the cooperation develop and deploy at scale," Delphi CEO, Kevin Clark, said.

"Our close working relationship with all three partners serves as a solid foundation for a success."

BMW's Klaus Fröhlich said the carmaker's autonomous platforms were designed to be "non-exclusive", and that the addition of Delphi to the mix would strengthen the development phase.   

The group is looking to apply their technology to a mass-produced model by 2021.
