Daimler Kills Maybach Production Talks With Aston Martin

Talks between Daimler and Aston Martin for the development and production of future Maybach models have been dropped, according  to reports in the German press this week.

Daimler has been weighing the future of its ultra-luxury Maybach marque for sometime. Most recently, it had been investigating the potential for partnering with another brand experienced in low-volume high-end offerings.

Favourite for the job was Britain's Aston Martin, which would likely have utilised future Maybach platforms and engines for new models in its own line-up - including the return of the Lagonda badge.

Now, a report by German newspaper Auto Motor und Sport suggests that the two parties have been unable to come together on the terms of the partnership.

It is believed that Aston's investment requirements have displeased the top brass at Daimler.

If a deal cannot be reached, it is possible that Daimler will shutter the ailing brand, with the Maybach 57 and 62 limousines both coming up on their 10th birthdays.

A break in discussion is not good news for Aston Martin: with its current Ford-sourced V12 engine line-up due to be discontinued in the near future, the brand must quickly secure funds to begin development of new powertrains.
