Bosch is the granddaddy when it comes to many important safety innovations in the motoring world, so it’s no surprise carmakers are lining up to work with the German tech giant.

Anti-lock brakes, electronic stability control and now autonomous driving systems are all feathers in Bosch’s cap (and others), and Mercedes-Benz has announced a partnership to further develop the autonomous systems.

Parent company Daimler said the goal was to introduce fully-autonomous cars by the beginning of the next decade, with development on public roads to be ramped-up by the new partnership.

“The objective is to develop software and algorithms for an autonomous driving system,” Daimler said.

“The project combines the total vehicle expertise of the world's leading premium manufacturer with the system and hardware expertise of the world's biggest supplier. The ensuing synergies should ensure the earliest possible series introduction of the secure technology.”
