D-Max Pickup, MU-X SUV Propel Isuzu To Record Sales In Oz

Isuzu Ute Australia has recorded its strongest year on the local market since it arrived six years ago, clocking 16,674 sales in 2014. That record haul, thanks in no small part to 4,745 sales for the MU-X 4WD SUV, represents a 6,465 (63 percent) increa

Isuzu Ute Australia has recorded its strongest year on the local market since it arrived six years ago, clocking 16,674 sales in 2014.

That record haul, thanks in no small part to 4,745 sales for the MU-X 4WD SUV, represents a 6,465 (63 percent) increase over the previous year.

The D-Max remains Isuzu’s champion however, with 1,775 sales in December alone (compared to 564 for the MU-X) leading the pickup to victory over the Colorado (1,295), BT-50 (1,126) and the outgoing Navara (1,117).

The brand celebrated another milestone in December, surpassing the 50,000 sales mark since arriving in late 2008.

“It was only a couple of years ago we were celebrating the sale of our 10,000th vehicle - so to be realising 50,000 units so quickly is a testament to both the strength of our products and satisfaction of our customers,” Isuzu Ute Australia chief Yasuhiro Takeuchi said.

Isuzu credits its growth in 2014 to the MU-X’s arrival and a strengthened position in the fleet market, helped by the awarding of a 5-Star ANCAP safety rating and an improved 3.5 tonne towing capacity on 4x4 D-Max models.

Growth also came with the expansion of Isuzu’s dealer network, having grown from 39 in 2008 to around 100 in 2014.
