Chevrolet will begin integrating Apple's Siri voice-recognition system into European models this year, with the Cruze, Trax and Aveo (Barina) among the first to receive the innovative technology.

Integrated into GM's MyLink infotainment system, the Siri Eyes Free system will allow drivers with a Siri-capable iPhone to push a button on the steering wheel to activate the Siri assistant.

Using voice commands, the driver can then dial numbers, arrange appointments, play songs in their iTunes libraries, or even ask Siri about the weather.

Conveniently for current Cruze or Aveo owners, the Siri Eyes Free system can be added to their MyLink hardware through a simple upgrade process - one of the key advantages of GM's MyLink software, which is expandable and customisable.

Siri Eyes Free will also be offered on some Honda and Acura models in North America.

Australian availability of Siri Eyes Free for either Holden or Honda has yet to be confirmed, but with the upcoming VF Commodore set to receive the latest version of the MyLink system, it's likely that it will be coming soon.

The system could also make an Australian debut with the upcoming Holden Trax, due in the coming months.
