Rumours of a new Chevrolet-badged Commodore project for the US market have fired up again this week, as reports out of the US suggest that a 2014 launch date has been approved.

The reports add that leaked GM documents refer to an 'SS Sedan' - a model that uses the same 'Zeta' platform as the Holden Commodore and the Australian-developed Camaro.

The Commodore was last seen on the US market as the Pontiac G8, which went the way of the dodo when the Pontiac badge was put to rest.

According to website GM Inside News, the Commodore-based SS Sedan was initially scheduled for a 2012 debut in North America, but sources have now pointed to a 2014 launch.

If the new information is to be believed, the US-destined Chevrolet-badged Commodore would likely follow the Australian debut of the overhauled 'VF' Commodore.

While the SS Sedan is understood to be approved for production, wearing a new Chevrolet face to separate it from its Pontiac past, GM is reportedly considering a US launch for the SportWagon and Ute.

A potential American debut for both variants was dashed with the reitrement of the Pontiac brand, but the GMI report claims that, if approved, the Ute would launch alongside the Sedan as the iconic 'El Camino', to be followed by the Sportwagon within a year.

Holden, as a rule, does not comment on possible new models and plans - but if anything is to come of these latest reports, more will likely be revealed over the coming year.
