Citroen’s refreshed DS3 hatch, revealed around this time last year, is now on sale in Australia.

Available in just one well-equipped specification, the 2015 DS3 kicks off from $33,990 for the DSport hatch and $36,590 for the DSport cabriolet.

Those prices mark increases of $4250 and $3600 respectively, but Citroen says it has added around $5550 in new standard features to both.

The DS3 also gains lightly updated styling and a more powerful and more efficient version of PSA Peugeot Citroen’s 1.6 litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

Price increase aside, one other key change in the 2015 line-up will likely impact on DS3 sales in 2015: buyers looking for an automatic transmission must now look elsewhere.

POWERTRAIN

The DS3 DSport’s 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engine now produces 121kW and 240Nm, which means that while torque is unchanged, power gets a light 6kW bump.

Matched to a six-speed manual, the DS 3's fuel consumption is also slightly improved, dropping from 5.9 to 5.6 l/100km.

For 2015, Citroen has dropped the DStyle model and its 88kW 1.6 engine. Likewise, the earlier option of a four-speed auto is now gone.

FEATURES

For 2015, the light DS3 range adds LED and Xenon combination headlights to create a more striking look up front.

Featuring three large LED modules and a single Xenon unit, the DS3’s new headlights reduce energy use by around 35 percent in low-beam and 75 percent in high-beam mode.

There are also 3D-effect tail-lights, new 17-inch diamond-cut alloy wheel designs and a new Pearlescent White paint option.

Other standard features include 7.0 inch display, satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity, auto headlights and wipers, tyre pressor monitors, heated and powered door mirrors, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.

Safety kit includes six airbags, Active City Brake, a reversing camera and parking sensors.

Citroen lists the DS3 Hatch’s seats-up boot space at 285 litres, packed to the parcel shelf. Seats-down figures are not offered. The Cabrio’s storage drops to 245 litres.
