Citroen has slapped a ‘Finale’ badge and a $59,990 drive-away price tag on the large C5 sedan as it prepares to call it a day on the powerful 2.2 litre diesel model.
If there's not enough appeal in Peugeot’s 508 GT - which rides on the same platform, features the same mighty diesel and wears the same drive-away price - fans of the still stylish C5 have a last chance to snap up a powerful French flagship.
Although the seven year-old C5 will continue for the foreseeable future with the less powerful 120kW/340Nm 2.0 litre engine, the 2.2 unit is now nearing the end of its run in the range.
In the C5, the 2.2 litre twin-scroll turbo diesel produces 150kW at 3500rpm and 450Nm of torque from 2000rpm.
Matched to a six-speed automatic transmission, the C5 Finale’s 2.2 diesel lists fuel consumption at 5.9 l/100km while claiming a 0-100km/h time of 8.2 seconds.
Styling features with the C5 Finale include 19-inch ‘Adriatic’ alloy wheels in a grey/polished two-tone finish (with a space-saver spare), metallic paint and dual-chrome exhaust tips.
In the cabin, there’s a newly equipped reversing camera and a 350W eight-speaker premium audio system.
Tricks already standard with the top-spec C5 include satellite navigation, partial leather trim, powered/heated seats up front with memory and massaging function for the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with metallic highlights, cruise control, speed limiter, trip computer and tyre pressure monitor.
Safety kit includes nine airbags, ABS, brake assist, ESC and traction control, parking sensors front and rear, hill hold assist and brake emergency display lights at the rear.
Sales for the ageing C5 range in 2015 have been relatively positive, with year-to-date figures at 52 - although this represents a nearly 26 percent drop against the same period in 2014.
PRICING
The Citroen C5 Finale is available now, with a drive-away price of $59,990.
The C5 range also includes the C5 Exclusive sedan, priced at $47,990 drive-away, with free reverse camera (normally a $3400 addition).

It may be getting on a bit in age, but it's still a very capable car. Quirky & unique is a Citroen trait. The Hi Po diesel whacks the car along & it's a pretty refined unit. Still another underrated car in Australia.
A great car for those people that want to stand out from the crowd with something classy and pleasurable to drive!! but most Australians will not consider it because it doesn't have a boring old Toyota badge or a fake "true blue" Holden badge!!
Yeah that's the only reason anybody would rule out a seven year old $60k French car in a market overflowing with choice.
still more advanced than the old crap technology Toyboata or Holden offer!!!
