Citroen’s quirky C4 Cactus just got a little quirkier, with the release of a limited edition model aligned with surfing brand Rip Curl.

Called the Rip Curl Cactus, the special edition arrives to coincide with the 2016 GrommSearch series at Sydney’s Maroubra Beach this weekend.

The Rip Curl brings Grip Control, Goodyear mud and snow tyres, white rear-view mirror caps and white roof rail over the ‘standard’ Cactus - although, the Cactus is one of the most customisable cars available for sale in Australia.

There’s also silver bumper guards both front and rear, and, naturally, the package is completed with Rip Curl signage on the front mudguards and C-pillars.

Premium paint is also standard, available in a new Baltic Blue finish along with Noir Obsidien (black), Rouge Aden (Red), Olive Brown or Pearlescent White for an extra $200.

All Rip Curls are fitted with black Airbumps.

Power comes from the same 1.2 litre PureTech three-cylinder engine found in the regular petrol-powered Cactus, matched with a five-speed manual transmission.

Inside, the special edition model scores Rip Curl-branded floor mats with orange stitching, orange seat belts and orange speaker surrounds.

Citroen says its Grip Control system, combined with the uprated Goodyear rubber, means the Cactus Rip Curl is ideal for surfers seeking the perfect wave. Skiers and snowboarders may also find it appealing.

“Both Citroen and Rip Curl are renowned for their fun and lifestyle-orientated products - the partnership is an ideal fit for the two brands,” Citroen Australia’s Dimitri Andreatidis said.

“The alliance also brings together these iconic Australian and French brands in a fun way, while the added tech gives the Cactus greater abilities off the beaten track.”

Rip Curl’s Neil Ridgway said the surf brand was “stoked” to partner with Citroen, particularly on a car that suits the Rip Curl lifestyle.

The 2016 Citroen C4 Cactus Rip Curl Edition is priced from $28,790 plus on-road costs; just 15 units are available in Australia.
