Update: Australian debut confirmed for July 2012. See bottom of article.

Citroen's C4 Aircross SUV has made its international debut today, ahead of its European launch alongside the Peugeot 4008 (with which it shares a Mitsubishi platform).

While the all-new Citroen C4 hatch will make its Australian debut next month, the mechanically-unrelated C4 Aircross has yet to be confirmed for a local launch.

As with the 4008, the C4 Aircross is built on a modified version of the Mitsubishi's ASX platform. Unlike the larger Peugeot 4007 and its Mitsubishi Outlander progenitor however, the C4 Aircross and 4008 share very little exterior styling with their ASX counterpart.

Apart from its SUV body, the styling of the C4 Aircross draws from both its C4 namesake and the upmarket DS4, with a large (and complex) headlight design, vertical daytime running lights and Citroen's prominent chevron grille design.

At the rear, the Aircross carries taillights similar in design to the C4 and DS4, along with a tailgate that is shared with its Peugeot stablemate (thanks to the almost identical taillight shape).

Under the bonnet, the C4 Aircross gets a range of petrol and diesel engines, including a 85kW/152Nm 1.6 litre petrol engine, an 82kW diesel and a more powerful 112kW diesel.

Transmissions include a six-speed manual, a five-speed manual and a CVT automatic, along with two-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive options.

Features include a touch-screen interface and GPS navigation, a rear-view camera and USB/Bluetooth connectivity.

Updated June 2012.

Australian Citroen distributor Ateco has confirmed a July 2012 debut for the C4 Aircross. See here for details.
