Citroen is banking on continuing the sales momentum for its Berlingo van, with an updated 2016 model that adds extra safety and infotainment technology for just the barest of price-rises over the outgoing runout model.

An 80kW/147Nm 1.6 litre petrol four-cylinder powers the short body model, while long body variants run a 66kW/215Nm turbo diesel.

The petrol engine comes paired with a five-speed manual, and the diesel engine has a choice of five-speed manual, or six-speed semi-automatic which also adds engine start/stop.

New standard equipment includes a segment-first reversing camera, and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system loaded with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Siri Eyes Free and Bluetooth connectivity.

Safety is bolstered by Hill start assist, electronic stability control, and traction control joining the standard features list.

Externally, the new Berlingo can be spotted thanks to a revised front bumper, while the cargo bay picks up a standard moulded floor protector.

“We were the first to offer a car-based van 20 years ago and now we will be the first to offer significant standard safety specification for professional drivers.” Shaun Mackle, Citroen Australia’s national sales manager said.

“We believe the addition of touch-screen, reverse camera, stability control and other safety equipment will appeal to sole traders and fleet managers alike – particularly those that value safety and running costs,”

Long body vehicles are also available with an optional Look Pack, which adds LED running lights, fog lamps with cornering function, colour-matched mirrors, door handles, bodyside mouldings, and front bumper, plus 15-inch Airflow wheel covers.

The range launches with drive-away pricing for a limited time, the short body is priced at $22,000, the long body manual at $26,500 and the long body semi-automatic at $30,500. The long body represents a $500 price rise over run out stock of the outgoing model.

Standard pricing, once the drive-away offer expires on December 31st, sees the short body move to $21,990, the long body manual to $26,990 and the long body semi-automatic to $30,990, before on-road costs.

Berlingo Short Body MT $21,990
Berlingo Long Body MT $26,990
Berlingo Long Body Semi-automatic $30,990

Note: Manufacturer's list price; on-road costs and charges extra.
