Chrysler has added a more affordable option to its performance-focused 300 SRT8 sedan range, with the launch of the new Core model.

Entering at $56,000 plus on-roads, the new 300 SRT8 Core cuts $10,000 from the full-spec SRT8's price, coming in well under the Luxury Car Tax threshold.

This is no limited-edition model, either. Developed for Australia - where the new HSV Gen-F Clubsport has debuted at $60,990 - the Core arrives as a permanent price rival in the large performance sedan market.

Power in the SRT8 Core is provided by the familiar 6.4 litre Hemi V8, producing 347kW and 631Nm of torque, compared to the Clubsport's LS3 which offers 317kW and 550Nm.

To get that sort of power from an HSV, you'll have to move up to the 325kW $71,290 Clubsport R8, and then tack on the 340kW/570Nm $4995 SV pack.

The Core also gets all of the main SRT features, including an active exhaust system, hydraulic power steering and Brembo brakes.
