Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Australia has issued recalled for four of its models in Australia, with two pairs of models each affected by two separate issues.

Jeep Grand Cherokees from the 2012-2014 model-years and Chrysler 300 variants from the 2011-2014 model-years may be subject to an alternator recall.

Models equipped with electro-hydraulic power steering along with a 180 amp or 220 amp alternator may experience ‘diode thermal fatigue’. In other words, the diode may fail and thus the alternator will no longer replenish spent electrical energy to the system.

Should this occur, the engine may stall without warning, potentially causing a hazard for the vehicle occupants and other road users.

Further, a failed diode may cause a short circuit, causing smoke or fire under the bonnet.
