The Holden Barina Spark's Overseas cousin, the Chevrolet Spark, is set to welcome a new electric model to the family in 2013.
Announced last year, the new model will offer light hatch buyers an extra-green alternative to the existing Spark petrol line-up when it debuts at this month's LA Auto Show.
Details of the Spark EV's drivetrain are still to be revealed, although it is understood the little hatch will feature an 85kW electric motor.
In petrol form, the Australian-delivered Barina Spark is powered by a 1.2 litre four-cylinder petrol engine producing 59kW and 107Nm of torque, with fuel consumption listed at 5.6 l/100km.
GM's new MyLink infotainment system, just now making its way to Australia, will also feature in the Spark EV.
Unlike the regular version, the MyLink system that will feature in the Spark EV will also offer expanded functionality for the car's electric motor readouts.
“The Spark EV and next-generation of MyLink demonstrate Chevrolet’s commitment to delivering the advanced technologies that today’s consumers will be eager to adopt and truly value,” said, Chevrolet's Chris Perry said.
