Chevrolet has revealed further details on its all-new 2016 Camaro, ahead of the muscle car’s unveiling next month.

Fans can expect a trimmer model for the Camaro’s sixth generation - down 90kg on its predecessor - and ‘proof’ of this has come via images showing some of the new model’s lightweight components (above).

The US carmaker remained silent on the new model until quite recently, but the drip-feed of information has now begun ahead of the Camaro’s launch at a special event in May.

Much of the weight-shedding has come from the Alpha rear-wheel-drive platform that underpins the Camaro, following similar diets for Cadillac models sharing the same platform that have emerged in recent months.

More aluminium now features in the front and rear suspension, aiding a 21 percent weight reduction for suspension components over the previous model.

Chevrolet says the new suspension combined with weight-saving elsewhere in the car will improve the Camaro’s handling characteristics, while also aiding faster acceleration times.
