The joint Chevrolet-AvtoVAZ alliance has teased its next Niva 4WD for the Russian market, in a concept set to appear at the Moscow Motor Show.

The new model is expected to go on sale in 2016, and will be the second generation of Niva produced by the alliance.

Currently, the Chevrolet Niva sits upon hardware used by the ‘traditional’ Lada Niva (which itself has been updated for 2014) and is priced from 469,000 rubles (AU$13,998).

Off-road ability in the current Chev Niva has not been compromised, and these teaser images plus General Motors' assurances suggests the next generation will also feel at home in mud and snow.

GM says the new model will have “superb off-road capability”, including an off-road package comprising 16-inch wheels with all-terrain tyres, underbody protection and a snorkel.
