Suzuki Australia has responded to recent reports surrounding its incoming Celerio city car, saying the local version of the new model will be engineered to achieve a 4-Star safety rating.
Testing by Euro NCAP earlier this month gave the Celerio only a 3-Star safety rating, as the new model’s lack of standard side-airbags prompted Euro NCAP to skip the pole-impact test.
Euro NCAP’s partner in the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) is yet to crash-test the vehicle, but Suzuki’s local arm is confident of achieving a 4-Star result.
Unlike its European counterpart, the Celerio sold in Australia will be fitted with standard side-airbags and seatbelt reminders for rear-seat passengers.
This, Suzuki believes, will earn the Celerio a higher safety rating for local customers - matching the 4-Star rating of the Suzuki Alto that the Celerio replaces.
