Cadillac is reportedly planning an array of new models to fill ‘gaps’ in its current line-up, according to company boss Johan de Nysschen.

Since making the jump from Infiniti, de Nysschen has been examining the carmaker’s line-up to assess which gaps are a priority.

And now, de Nysschen has reportedly told industry paper Automotive News that a new compact SUV which would later lend itself to an entry-level sedan is Cadillac’s next move.

"[An entry-level sedan is] a big priority - it's a red-hot market segment right now that's really going through explosive growth," de Nysschen said.

"The same applies for the compact crossovers. We will need entrants there as well."

Mr de Nysschen explained that lacking models in both of these segments is impacting on Cadillac’s sales, which were down six percent overall in the US for 2014.

A compact SUV would be the first new model arriving in early 2017, taking on the likes of Audi’s Q3, BMW’s X3 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA.
