Cadillac's new ELR coupe, a close cousin to the electrified Holden Volt, has made its production debut in Detroit this week.
Sticking closely to the styling of the 2009 Converj concept, the ELR enters the US market as an upmarket coupe alternative to the Chevrolet-badged Volt.
Cadillac promises a more premium driving experience, too, with more power and sharper handling to set it apart from the Chev.
Like the Volt, the ELR is powered by a petrol-electric system, combining two electric motors and a generator-powering 1.4 litre petrol engine.
Those two electric motors produce a combined 154kW and 400Nm of torque, bettering the 111kW and 368kW offered with the Volt's single electric unit.
Cadillac promises a 0-60mph (96km/h) time of "around eight seconds", again bettering the Volt's 10.3 second run to the ton.
