Bugatti's successor to the now legendary Veyron will reportedly outdo its predecessor in just about every way possible.

A report with business paper Reuters this week claims that insiders have confirmed a 1500 horsepower (1118kW) output, delivered with hybrid power.

The pairing of a big petrol engine with a powerful electric motor is quickly becoming de rigueur in the hypercar arena, as companies work to have their halo models belt out more power than ever - without running too far afoul of efficiency expectations.

In the case of Bugatti’s next hero, those 1500 horses are expected to come mostly from a version of the current model’s 16-cylinder quad-turbo engine that already forces 883kW through the flagship Super Sport’s all-wheel-drive system.

Like Ferrari’s LaFerarri, McLaren’s P1 and the Porsche 918 Spyder - the latter also being a stablemate of the Bugatti brand - the Veyron’s replacement would also utilise an electric motor to boost power and improve fuel economy.

More, it is expected that the new Bugatti will even top the mental 431km/h top speed of the Veyron Super Sport.

For bragging rights alone, it will need to: the Super Sport once held the title of world’s fastest production car, but it has since been surpassed by the Hennessey Venom GT’s Guinness-confirmed 435.1km/h top speed.

Bugatti, for its part, is not unaware of the need to impress.

"The new model will not be less exciting than the Veyron," a spokeswoman for Bugatti told Reuters. "Our customers have certain expectations."

So do we, lady, so do we…
