The German tuning house Brabus has waved its magic wand over the very un-Brabus-like smart fortwo electric drive to give the tiny two-seater a dash more power and an extra helping of sporting appeal.

Based on the lightly-updated 2013 smart fortwo, the smart Brabus electric drive is the first battery-powered vehicle modified by the company - which is better known for its ballistic twin-turbo V12 conversions - and the changes made are fairly mild.

The electric motor's power output has been taken from 55kW to 60kW while torque remains at 135Nm, and a 'sound module' has been fitted to generate "a sporty sound". Whether that sound is a 6.2 litre V8 at full song or the 'wubwubwub' of George Jetson's spacecraft is not yet clear.

The smart's removable plastic body panels are painted a glossy black, while the exposed steel frame is painted bright green.

Brabus also designed new front and rear bumper extensions to give the fortwo a sportier edge, and the 16-inch front and 17-inch rear six spoke alloys lend it a tougher stance.

Inside, the smart Brabus electric drive features leather seats, alloy pedals and a bevy of high-gloss neon green trim highlights.

The smart Brabus electric drive will make its international debut at the Geneva Motor Show this month, and is set to go on sale in Europe in late 2012.
