M666: BMW's triumvirate-of-fear is complete, with the all-new M6 Gran Coupe joining the existing Coupe and Convertible models this week.

Set for a European debut in May, the big four-door powerhaus should hit the Australian market sometime in the third quarter of 2013.

As expected, the M6 GC is driven by the same 4.4 litre twin-turbo V8 that powers its two-door siblings - and a number of other BMW M cars.

Power is rated at 412kW and torque at 680Nm - the latter, available between 1500 and 5750rpm, marks a 30 percent increase over the old V10.

All that motivational force is sent to the rear wheels through BMW's seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

BMW reckons the M-enhanced Gran Coupe will hit 100km/h in 4.2 seconds, making it a match for the Coupe and Convertible and bettering the M5's 4.4 second run (but who's keeping score).

Top speed is listed at an electronically limited 250km/h, although optioning the M Driver package will unlock a 305km/h limit.

Helping the big sedan get there is an 'Active M' electronically controlled multi-disc limited-slip diff and a Launch Control system, while comfort and efficiency aids include Low Speed Assistance and Auto Stop-Start.

Fuel consumption is rated at 9.9 l/100km, and CO2 emissions at 232g/km.

As with the two-door models, the M6 benefits from the usual treatment of M tweaks, including an overhauled chassis and aluminium-rich suspension with an upgraded Dynamic Damper Control system.

There's also speed-sensitive hydraulic rack and pinion steering, 20-inch alloy wheels, and the availability (they're not standard fit) of carbon-ceramic brakes.

Standard brakes are steel and aluminium, measuring 399mm at the front and 396mm at the rear, gripped by six-piston calipers.

The cabin sees a leather fit-out as standard, along with Alcantara and carbon fibre accents.

There's the familiar M steering wheel and instrument cluster, along with the iDrive control system paired with a 10.2 inch display.

Holding occupants in place through the corners are M Sport seats, designed for optimum lateral support - and comfort, of course.
