Rumours of a triple-turbo 'M550d' 5 Series diesel have been circulating for some time, and now new reports out of Europe are pointing to a high-powered variant in the new 1 Series line-up.

The same leaked documents that revealed the M550d name have offered up another juicy badge: M135i

Dutch website Driving Fun reports that the new top-shelf 1er will feature BMW's familiar 3.0 litre twin-turbo straight six, delivering 235kW - a 10kW boost over the previous 135i

The M badge suggests that while the new model won't be a full-fledged next-generation 1 M, the carmaker's performance division will likely develop a range of handling and styling tweaks for the car.

For now, the new 1 Series is offered in one bodystyle, the five-door hatch, with three petrol and diesel engines topping out at 125kW and 105kW respectively.

If it exists, watch for more details on the M135i to surface in the coming months.
