If we've learned anything in recent years, it's to never believe BMW when they slap the word 'concept' on a car that looks this ready-to-go.
This is the coming BMW M4. Officially a concept, but... this is the BMW M4.
Sure, some things might change; the carbon-fibre wrappers that cosset the exhaust tips, and maybe the... no, that's about it really.
Based, of course, on the new 4 Series Coupe, the M4 gets the usual M styling and aero enhancements: the big power dome, the double-ribbed kidney grille design and a large three-port and finned front bumper.
The profile is dominated by pumped guards and those big five-split-spoke wheels and golden M brake calipers. The 4 Coupe's deep character line now also terminates in a higher gill - replacing the low-set gill seen on the regular 4 models.
At the rear you'll find a new finned bumper with a narrow diffuser and the familiar quad-pipe setup, these ones wrapped tightly in carbon fibre barrels.
And that colour? Officially, it's called 'Aurum Dust', developed "exclusively for this model" - but we all know its inspired by the Phoenix Yellow offered with BMW's last six cylinder M3, the E46.
Is that a hint as to what will power the M4? BMW still hasn't said what we can expect, but reports suggest we'll find a turbocharged six-cylinder engine in the engine bay of the new M4.
The 335i turbo power plant produces 225 KW of power, while the M3’s current V8 engine produces 309 KW. Power in the new M is expected to stray not far beyond this figure, although a dollop of extra torque is likely.
Debuting without a significant power boost won't hold the M4 back however, with advanced lightweight materials, new electronically controlled differential, wider track and a torque vectoring system all expected to enhance performance significantly.
Watch for more details over the weekend.
