As part of BMW's aggressive expansion of its performance-oriented offerings, the German automaker has this week announced the arrival of its M Performance Parts Range.

Currently only available for the new 1 Series, 3 Series and 5 Series, the M Performance Parts have a stronger focus on functionality than BMW's existing M Sport range of aesthetics-enhancing accessories.

They also bridge the gap between regular 1, 3 and 5 Series models and the incoming BMW M Performance vehicle range, which themselves are a stepping stone between the cooking-grade models and the full-blown 1 M, M3 and M5.

The M Performance Parts catalogue includes alcantara-clad steering wheels (both with and without an integrated lap timer and shift lights), stainless steel pedals, carbon-fibre splitters and spoilers, lightweight 19 and 20-inch alloys, M Performance exhaust systems, sports-tuned suspension hardware and big brake kits.

Aggressively-style front and rear bumpers also transform the appearance of each model.

The 120d, 320d and 520d can also be modified with an M Performance power kit, which changes the ECU tune and some engine components to unlock a full 150kW and 420Nm from the 2.0 litre turbodiesel.

A similar power kit is also planned for the Twinpower 2.0 litre petrol engine.

Local availability for the M Performance Parts range has yet to be announced.
