BMW has confirmed it will unveil a new “luxury design study” at the Beijing Auto Show, but the German carmaker is keeping its cards close for now.

In a short statement, BMW said the new concept will offer “a long-term outlook on [BMW’s] perception of modern luxury”.

“This concept car portrays luxury as a forward-looking fusion of exclusivity and innovation, with the focus on outstanding exterior and interior design quality,” BMW said.

“[The concept displays] select materials, seamlessly integrated control units featuring pioneering technology, an innovative lightweight construction concept and a driving experience that is optimally tailored to the needs of all occupants.”

Rumours of a new super-luxurious BMW 9 Series for the Chinese market surfaced earlier this month, but whether this new concept will introduce us to a 9 Series or merely preview the new 7 Series is unclear.

No images of the concept have become available yet, but that hasn’t stopped Independent designer Osmet Cevik from CVK Design imagining what it might look like (see top of page and gallery below).

Cevik’s design is something of a stretched BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe, but a 9 Series may feature a higher roofline if uncompromised luxury is the main goal, rather than the sloping roof of the Gran Coupe.

The importance of the high-end market in China was further emphasised this week, with reports out of Europe suggesting the Maybach name may be revived with a focus on the Chinese and US markets.
