BMW could soon add another carmaker to its list of partners, with reports this week that it is in talks with Hyundai on a development alliance.

BMW could soon add another carmaker to its list of partners, with reports this week that it is in talks with Hyundai on a development alliance.
The German carmaker currently has development and manufacturing ties with PSA Peugeot Citroen and Toyota, with small petrol and diesel engines among the technologies shared.
Although light on details, a report in German industry paper Automobil Produktion this week claims that Chung Eui-sun, son of Hyundai Chairman Chung Mong-koo, has met with BMW's top brass.
It is reported that the two carmakers could split 1-2 billion euros in costs on the development of next-generation petrol and diesel engines.
The report's validity is unclear however, with BMW CEO Norbert Reithofer telling press in Europe this week that "further co-operation partners are currently not foreseen".
For now, BMW has confirmed only that it is working on a new engine architecture that it says will improve economies of scale for its three, four and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.
