BMW and Daimler have joined forces to fast-track development on inductive charging technology, as each carmaker looks to a universal standard for the future.
Future inductive charging systems would be able to charge to both electric-only and plug-in hybrid vehicles, and would complement the likes of BMW’s i Wallbox.
As with other inductive charging systems, this new development from BMW and Daimler sees vehicles parking above a conductive charging mat with an electronic coil, which is able to transfer energy to an on-board coil to recharge the EV’s battery wirelessly.
