BMW has announced two new plug-in hybrids, both of which will make their first public appearance at this month's Frankfurt Auto Show.
The 330e and 225xe will accompany the already-announced 740e and X5 xDrive40e as BMW's latest plug-in hybrid models, with both able to motor for up to 40km under electric power alone.
But while both can travel emissions-free for similar distances, their configurations couldn't be more different.
The 225xe is an all-wheel drive hatch (hence the 'x' designation) with the rear wheels driven exclusively by its 65kW/165Nm electric motor, while the 330e is RWD and sandwiches its 65kW/250Nm electric motor between its petrol engine and eight-speed transmission.
