BMW has revealed its showstopper for this week's Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este in Italy - the 328 Hommage concept.

Complete with bonnet straps, round headlights, slotted wheels and a split windscreen, the 328 Hommage celebrates the 75th birthday of the original 328, built between 1936 and 1940.

The centrepiece of the concept's styling is the classic tall-and-narrow BMW grille, a design that has evolved over time to the now shorter and wider BMW signature style.

It's not just styling that the 328 Hommage has borrowed from its progenitor. Lightweight construction was a key part of the original 328's design, and BMW has emulated that approach with the use of carbon-fibre reinforced plastics for the Hommage's body.

Complete technical figures haven't been revealed, but BMW has confirmed a 3.0 litre inline-six engine. Watch for more details to come out of the 328 Hommage's debut in Italy over the weekend.
