Legendary automotive design house Bertone has turned its hand to the Jaguar brand, developing a concept it calls the B99, a potential new small car for Jaguar.

Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the B99 is Bertone's take on how a Jaguar-badged BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 rival could look.

Apart from its Rolls Royce-like rear doors, the B99 concept marks a return to the stying of earlier Jaguars, borrowing more from the older XJ models than the all-new flagship revealed in 2009.

Despite its limousine-like proportions, the B99 measures just 4.5 metres long - around the same length as the BMW 3 Series, and some 400mm shorter than the Jaguar XF.

It's unclear at this stage whether Jaguar design boss Ian Callum played a role in the B99's design, although the cat's Brand Director Adrian Hallmark has acknowledged the need for a small car in the Jaguar line-up.

"If we go into the smaller car market," he said, "we want to build elegant cars with great technology that give a sense of occasion and position us above that competition -- where Jaguar should be," Hallmark said.

Mechanical details, if any exist, have yet to be revealed; we can expect more information at next month's Geneva Motor Show.
