Bathurst City Council has revealed the list of street names which will now identify the roads in and around the paddock camp ground area at Mount Panorama.

As expected, the list of 22 names comprises a ‘who’s who’ of Australian touring car racers who have graced ‘The Mountain’ since the great race moved there in 1963, along with a few surprises.

Despite eight years having passed this month since the death of Peter Brock, the fans clearly haven’t forgotten about him as ‘Peter Perfect’ is honoured with his fourth recognition at Bathurst.

‘Brock Avenue’ has now joined Brock Skyline, the Peter Brock Trophy and a statue of the fan-favourite at the entrance to the National Motor Racing Museum near Murray’s Corner.

In fact all of the roads will be referred to as ‘Avenue’, with names including Bartlett, Grice, Bond and Goss recognising other winners of the Great Race.

Current competitors to be honoured with a street name include Russell Ingall, Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup.

A few father/son names also feature in the list, with Moffat, Johnson, Seton, Perkins and Richards (and arguably others) all represented.

Motorcycle racing hasn’t been forgotten, with Mick Doohan, Barry Sheene and Ron Toombs representing two-wheel racers.

"Recognising Bathurst's rich motoring history is an important part of growing Bathurst as a tourist destination," Bathurst Mayor, Councillor Gary Rush said.

"Each one of these 22 names has a unique story to tell and I'm thrilled Council has formally recognised the contribution of these motoring personalities to the Bathurst region."

The list was comprised following a vote by 550 racing fans conducted by Council last year, while Council has also renamed the existing Twelfth Avenue as ‘Bathurst Avenue’.

Streets aren’t the only thing being renamed in Bathurst, with Council recently announcing a move to co-name Mount Panorama ‘Wahluu’ to recognise the landmark’s Aboriginal title from the Wiradjuri people.
