Reports in recent weeks have pointed to a December unveiling for Lamborghini's Aventador Roadster, at a special event in Europe.

Now, new whispers online point to a possible debut in Florida next week, where the topless supercar can make the most of the tropical climate.

According to enthusiast website TeamSpeed, insiders at Lamborghini have confirmed that an event will be held in Miami on November 12.

The date coincides with the South Florida International Auto Show, but it is unclear if the events are related.

For its part, Lamborghini is still yet to announce the existence of the Aventador Roadster, let alone plans for an unveiling.

Recent photos out of Europe however have revealed that the topless Aventador is coming, using detachable panels instead of a retracting roof.

Reports out of Europe suggest the decision was made to keep the Coupe and Roadster engine covers identical, and to avoid including storage space for the roof - both angles allowing for lower production costs and development time.

It's unclear if onboard storage for the panels will be offered, however, suggesting a Veyron-like 'stick them in your garage before you leave home' approach.

Power will likely come from the same 515kW 6.5 litre V12 driving the current hardtop, which rockets to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds.
