Lamborghini's stand at July's Australian International Motor Show in Melbourne might just be the event's most popular, following news today that the raging bull's brand-new Aventador flagship will make its local debut.

The event will mark the Aventador's first appearance in Australia, coming less than five months after its international unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

“There is no greater drawcard for a motor show than a spectacular, brand new, never-seen-in-Australia super sports car,” Australian International Motor Show event director Russ Tyrie said.

“To have such an important and impressive supercar unveiled locally so soon after its global unveiling is very exciting for the Australian International Motor Show.”

The Aventador LP 700-4 is powered by a brand-new V12 engine, producing 525kW and 690Nm of torque.

Combined with a seven-speed ISR (Independent Shifting Rods) transmission, the Aventador rockets to 100km/h in 2.9 seconds, making it 0.3 seconds quicker than the most powerful model in the Murcielago line.

The Australian International Motor Show opens at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre at 6pm on Friday 1 July, and runs until Sunday 10 July.

Other new models and concepts confirmed for the 2011 AIMS include the Toyota Prius V and Prius C, the Suzuki Swift S-Concept, the Range Rover Evoque, the Toyota FT-86 II Concept, the 2012 Audi A6 and the 2012 Jaguar XF.
