Audi has announced the imminent arrival of the SQ5 TDI plus, a turbodiesel performance SUV which turns the wick up on the regular SQ5 with its peak power and torque outputs of 250kW and 700Nm.

Due to hit German dealerships in October before arriving in Australia in the first half of 2016, the SQ5 plus has its 3.0 litre turbodiesel V6 tuned with a higher fuel injector pressure (and presumably more boost) to develop 20kW more power and 50Nm more torque.

To put those outputs into perspective, the SQ5 plus makes the same amount of torque as Audi's mighty RS 6 Avant - and it does so while returning an average fuel economy of 6.7 l/100km (European test cycle).

The upgrades don't end there either, with the SQ5 plus' upgraded quattro AWD system gaining an active rear differential that vectors torque from left to right to aid handling.

21-inch alloys are standard too, and are an inch bigger than what the regular SQ5 TDI receives.

Curiously though, the SQ5 TDI plus' 0-100km/h sprint time of 5.1 seconds is identical to that of the non-plus model. The bigger wheels may take some of the fizz out of the plus' power increase.

But it's not all about performance with the SQ5 TDI plus. It also sports new exhaust tip finishers and gloss black exterior mirror housings, door handles, tailgate spoiler and diffuser. Inside, you'll find diamond-quilted Nappa leather upholstery.

In Germany, Audi will offer up to 100 SQ5 plus cars in a distinctive "Macaw Blue" colour scheme, which also brings sports front seats in black Nappa leather with blue contrast stitching and unique alloy interior trim.

The SQ5 TDI plus will retail for €67,700 in Germany (AU$109,217), a €4950 premium over the regular SQ5 TDI. Pricing and Australian specifications will be revealed closer to its local market launch in the first half of next year.
