Audi Sending New TT Concept To Tokyo Next Month?

Audi will use next month's Tokyo Motor Show to preview its next-generation TT sports car, according to reports out of Europe this week.

Reported by Dutch website Audiblog.nl and picked up by Britain's Auto Express, Audi is believed to be preparing a TT showcar that may not be too far distant from Audi showrooms. (The current 'Mk2' TT debuted in Europe less than six months after its 2005 Tokyo 'concept reveal'.)

Accompanying the original report is an illustration purportedly sourced from an Audi insider, revealing a rear-end that draws inspiration from the likes of the R8 supercar, the Detroit e-tron Concept and the recent Quattro Concept.

While the current model uses a version of Volkswagen's versatile PQ35 platform (Golf, Tiguan, Caddy, so on), the third-generation TT is expected to go further upmarket, gaining a new aluminium-focused architecture.

Expect the new TT to retain its front-mounted engine layout, along with the front- and all-wheel-drive configurations, but as always, more power and greater handling characteristics will be the selling point.

What if...

If Audi is planning a new concept for Tokyo, and if the above image is legitimate, and if it's not a glimpse at the new TT, what then?

If we ignore the TT badge on the illustration, we could be looking at an all-new concept, or a production version of the Quattro Concept, the rumoured R4, or a new chapter in the e-tron story

For now, keep an eye on TMR's Tokyo coverage next month.
