Audi's V8-powered S6 sedan and S7 Sportback have hit Australia. But, as with the A6 Allroad, these two come as limited-edition offerings.

Both produce 309kW and 550Nm of torque from their TFSI V8s. The S6, previously a V10, has downsized to the twin-turbo unit for its latest incarnation.

All four wheels are driven through Audi's quattro system, matched to a seven-speed DSG transmission.

Audi says the S6 will dash to 100km/h in 4.6 seconds, while the Sportback is a tick slower at 4.7 seconds. Both go on to a limited 250km/h.

The alloy powerplant features Cylinder on Demand (CoD) cylinder deactivation, coupled with stop-start. The CoD system drops the engine to four cylinders under light load to save fuel.

The engine is also fitted with a thermal management system that heats the engine to optimum operating temperature quickly by disconnect the water pump.
