AUDI S3 CABRIOLET
Power in the new S3 is provided by the same 221kW/380Nm 2.0 litre turbo engine that drives its hardtop siblings.
Output will likely drop to 206kW when it hits Australia later this year, again matching its small S-badged stablemates in the local market.
Unlike the other S3 models, the new Cabrio can be had with a six-speed dual-clutch auto only, missing out on the six-speed manual option.
Like the regular A3 Cabriolet, the topless S3 gets an electric fabric roof that can retract in 18 seconds.
The retractable roof arrangement means 285 litres of storage in the boot when the roof is in place, and 245 litres when retracted.
As with all S models, the S3 Cabrio sends power to Audi’s quattro all-wheel-drive system, and there’s also upgraded brakes sitting behind big 18-inch wheels.
The new special is rounded out by sports suspension and enhanced steering, along with the usual assortment of S-specific styling and interior trim features.
Speaking with TMR today, Audi Australia's Shaun Cleary said the S3 Cabriolet is scheduled to hit Australia in the fourth quarter of 2014.
On the all-important topic of price, Mr Cleary said the company is "hoping to get it close to $75,000."
"We think this would be an excellent price point for such an exclusive sports model," Mr Cleary said.
