Audi’s upcoming RS 5 Cabriolet has entered the final evaluation phase of its development, as these recent spy photos suggest.

Despite still wearing disguise, this prototype is clearly carrying the same styling package as the recently updated coupe.

Previous cabriolet RS 5 sightings have been in the form of uncovered patent renderings, along with earlier prototypes that wore S5 badges.

The RS 5 coupe model has been on sale in Australia since 2010, but this will be the first time a soft-top version will be offered.

This will be the second RS soft top in the current range, alongside the convertible TT RS  (available overseas).

The production cabriolet’s mechanical package is also expected to ape its coupe sibling, meaning the 331kW 4.2 litre V8 and 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission.

Local availability is still unclear, but an official unveiling is due at the Paris Auto Show in September.
