Audi’s new RS4 Avant Nogaro edition is bound for Australia - but only five are coming, and the exclusivity will cost an extra $21,900.

The new special made its official debut in Geneva this week, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the RS2 Avant that kicked off Audi’s now familiar RS performance line.

There are no new mechanical tricks for this party however, with the Nogaro coming as a strictly style-focused affair with exclusive colours and finishes.

The hot wagon is finished in the custom Nogaro blue pearl-effect paint - a nod to the RS2 - and there’s also a gloss-black finish to the grille frame, window slot trims and the tailpipes. The roof rails are done in a matt black.

In the cabin, there’s blue Alcantara suede accents to the door panels and seats (black suede can also be had), along with blue contrast stitching throughout and blue thread through the carbin fibre trim. There’s also a special-edition shifter.

Mechanically, the RS 4 Avant Nogaro gets the familiar 4.2 litre V8 engine under the bonnet, delivering 331kW and 430Nm of torque.

As with the regular RS 4, the Nogaro boasts a 0-100km/h time of just 4.7 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 280km/h however, compared to 250km/h otherwise.

The usual suspects lurk beneath the body, including Audi's quattro all-wheel-drive system, paired with the brand's seven-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission.

The regular RS 4’s options are available with the Nogaro too: $13,500 for front ceramic brakes, $4400 for Dynamic Ride Control, $2300 for Dynamic Steering - the list goes on.

The Nogaro also gets an upgrade to 20-inch wheels - normally $3800 - replacing the 19-inch wheels offered with the RS 4.

(We reviewed an RS 4 Avant last year with the carbon brakes, 20 inch wheels and $4700 bucket seats. Read about it here.)

“We are pleased to secure five of these very special vehicles to offer our Australian customers,” said Andrew Doyle, Managing Director of Audi Australia.

“The original Audi Avant RS2 plays a significant role in Audi’s history as the founding model of our high-performance RS range. These RS 4 Avant Nogaro selection vehicles are a fitting tribute, and will become ‘collectable’ in their own right,” said Mr Doyle.

Pricing (excludes on-road costs)

Limited to five examples, the RS 4 Avant Nogaro will be available from $171,300.

Before options and on-roads, the regular RS 4 Avant is priced at $149,400.
