Audi has revealed a new ultra-light and ultra-quick version of its TT coupe, confirming reports late last year of a special new model.

Built for the GTI Wörthersee enthusiast show in Austria, the TT Ultra Quattro Concept is a special one-off that previews weight-saving techniques bound for future models.

Focusing on a light-footed build rather than power enhancements, the Ultra sheds a huge 300kg to bring kerb weight down to just 1111kg.

Weight savings were achieved through the use of carbon fibre-reinforced polymers (CFRP) in the coupe's back end, in the roof and B-pillar, and in the centre tunnel. More cuts were made in the floor and hinges, utilising magnesium components in these areas.

Power in the Ultra is provided by Audi's 2.0 litre TFSI turbo engine, producing 230kW and 400Nm of torque.

Those figures fall short of the production TT RS Plus' 265kW and 465Nm, but thanks to its significant weight loss, Audi says the Ultra will hit 100km/h in just 4.2 seconds.

For those keeping score, that means the Ultra produces less power than the TT RS Plus, but is only 0.1 seconds off the pace.
