Audi has revealed what is expected to be the last of its current-generation R8 supercars, in the form of the special R8 Competition.

Commemorating the seven-year run of the current R8, the Competition enters as the most powerful production Audi ever offered.

Driven by the company’s 5.2 litre V10, the R8 Competition offers 425kW and 540Nm.

Yes, it’s a relatively small increase over the recent R8 LMX special - just 6kW and no change to torque - but the new figures represent a 21kW boost over the R8 V10 currently offered in Australia.

It’s also the fastest R8 ever offered, reaching 100km/h in a claimed 3.3 seconds - a tight tenth quicker than the LMX, and two-tenths up on the R8 V10 Plus S tronic.

Other features include a gloss black finish to the exhaust and wheels, along with ceramic brakes with red callipers, and a number of matte-finish carbon items to the exterior.

Just 60 of the R8 Competition supercars will be built and, sorry to say, all will be offered exclusively in the US.

“The limited-edition Audi R8 competition is the closest road car to our R8 LMS ultra race car that has won virtually every race around the world,” Audi of America boss Scott Keogh said.

“It is designed for the driving enthusiast and we’re excited to bring 60 units as a limited-edition to the U.S.”
