Audi is preparing to unleash another iteration of its Quattro showcar concept, teased today with a handful of red-hot sketches.
And this time, it's expected to go into production, slotting into the Audi line-up just below the R8 supercoupe.
Audi last taunted fans with the hope of a new sub-R8 performance hero in 2010 when it celebrated the 30th anniversary of its legendary Ur-Quattro coupe.
The German carmaker will get back in the ring at next month's Frankfurt Motor Show, unveiling a second - and much musclier - Quattro concept.
As with its predecessor, the new Quattro concept is expected to ride on a version of the A5's platform, while showcasing the latest in lightweight construction features.
Teased in a series of stylised sketches today, the new concept will push the boundaries of Audi's angular design language, possibly previewing a new styling direction.
Expected Audi's turbo 4.0 litre V8 to power the coupe, delivering around 485kW to all four wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and the familiar quattro all-wheel-drive system.
That alone will set the new concept apart from its predecessor, which was powered by a 305kW version of Audi's popular five-cylinder turbo mill.
Watch for more details next month.
