Audi has used this month’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas to showcase some new interior tech from its self-driven Q6 Quattro concept.

The headline act is a new version of the fully-digitalised instrument cluster now seen in various Audi models, which has grown to 14.1 inches and features Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diodes (AMOLED).

Audi prefers the term Multi Media Interface (MMI) over Human Machine Interface (HMI), and the new version of said system is more finely-tuned to react to touch commands.

Data transfers between a user’s smartphone, watch or tablet and the Audi system is now faster, and phone calls are now quicker to connect with enhanced sound quality.

This latest technology concept also concentrates on improving Audi’s connectivity outside the car.

Vehicle2vehicle and Vehicle2infrastructure (v2v and v2i) is the focus, which includes the ability to cooperate with a new traffic signal system in the US, and a similar system combined with hazard information and an emergency contact system in Europe.

The driver receives more attention from the new tech, which monitors heartrate, skin temperature and more to gauge their general wellbeing. Should the car find that you’re stressed or tired, the system can make changed to improve your mood or protect you.

“The interior of the future will radically alter the way our customers operate and experience things in the vehicle,” Audi’s Ricky Hudi said.

“We are developing our successful Audi virtual cockpit into the Audi virtual dashboard and creating an entirely new world of experience for our customers. In the future, the entire system will get to know the customer and their habits and preferences, then proactively support them.”

And the car itself? It’s the all-electric, all-wheel-drive, semi-autonomous Q6 E-Tron Quattro SUV concept unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year.

Three electric motors and a 95kWh battery pack provide propulsion, and the concept has a combined output of 370kW with a maximum range of just less than 500km from a full charge.

Stay tuned, as Audi says the concept “hints at a future production model to be launched in 2018” - likely to be a production Q6 EV SUV.
